Community. Safe Sensory Play. Acceptance. Support. And You.

Community.  Safe Sensory Play. Acceptance. Support.

Those of you who have walked through the doors of SenseAbility Gym know that these are the words we live by here.  We created this gym space to provide a safe and fun play area where children can be themselves and parents can connect with one another.

You are the reason that we have been successful in our mission these past 15 months since we opened our doors to this community.

But now we need a little more.

On May 1st, we kicked off our first ever “Match Madness” Fundraising Campaign.  Thanks to the incredible generosity of Harold and Marcia Rhodes, every dollar raised between now and July 31st will be matched – up to $15,000!

We could raise enough to cover our expenses for an entire year.

But why are Harold and Marcia supporting us in this way?  It’s because of all of you.

Here’s what Harold had to say:

Marcia and I are often asked why we support the SenseAbility Gym, and why we are now doing this $15,000 matching gift program. We do not have children with autism or special needs. In fact, before meeting Tina and Alysia’s families, our lives have never been directly affected by any one having autism.
But that’s just our point. For children with special needs to feel accepted and understood, people  must get involved. We are all one community here…The smiles and the laughter coming from the kids and their parents show us how our financial commitment to SenseAbility Gym makes a real difference every day…

Their generosity means that every dollar counts in this campaign. $5 becomes $10. $10 becomes $20. $100 becomes $200. Your contributions are how we’re going to get to that $15,000 donation match.

So how can you help?
  • Share that link with friends and family.  Tell them why SenseAbility Gym is so important to you and ask them to support us – and you.
  • Talk with your employers about their own matching gift charitable programs.  Let us know if we need to get any information to them to make your gift help that much more.
  • Ask your employers about their own corporate giving programs.  The Rhodes will match all private and corporate donations.
Every contribution will help us keep our doors open to our incredibly special community.
Community.  Safe Sensory Play. Acceptance. Support.
That’s the mission you’re supporting with your donation.  Help us keep that going.

Sincerely,
Tina and Alysia

It’s Our First Anniversary!

It’s our anniversary!

One year ago on February 18th, SenseAbility Gym opened its doors to the public.  Since then we’ve welcomed in over 300 children and their families into our space for open gym time, classes, yoga and birthday parties.  It’s been an incredible year and we are so grateful for the community’s support of our mission.

Our celebration starts February 17th with special vacation hours, a “Sensational Tweens” night, and raffle prizes that include a sensory basket, SenseAbility Gym mugs, and gift certificates for memberships. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the gym for $1/ticket or 12 tickets for $10.

We are also holding our first anniversary online fundraiser through our partners at Razoo.  Click HERE to donate.  All donations are tax deductible under the extent allowed by law.  As always, 100% of the money raised goes directly back into SenseAbility Gym to cover operations and programming costs.

Thank you again for being a part of something special this year. We look forward to seeing you all in our second year.

Sincerely,

Tina and Alysia

SenseAbility Gym is proud to announce its first “Everyone’s A Winner” family fun day!

It’s a day to celebrate kids of all ages and abilities where every child can win and every family can participate.

The event will be held on Saturday, June 22 2013, from 2:00pm – 4:00pm at the Bright Beginnings Center Playground at 6 Park Street in Hopedale. (Rain Date is Sunday, June 23.)

Part of SenseAbility Gym’s mission is to create a community of understanding and acceptance where all families feel welcome, and to provide an environment that recognizes that all special needs children are different and that all learning styles, personalities, and abilities are welcome. As part of the family fun day, we are inviting area community organizations and special needs focused resource groups to join us at the event.

All exhibitors will have an “all abilities/sensory friendly” game or craft project.  Kids will receive a ticket for each game or craft project redeemable at our prize table.

Food and refreshments for the day have been generously donated by Whole Foods Market of Bellingham.

Organizations participating include Music Together of Blackstone Valley, Pathways to Learning, Alternative Educational Support, Athletes 4 Autism, Hopedale SPEAC, Hopedale Cub Scouts, Bright Beginnings Center Preschool, Friends of the Hopedale Library and the Kennedy Donovan Center.

EMC Corporation Honors SenseAbility Gym in Hopedale, MA with $15,000 Community Service Award

We are excited to announce a $15,000 donation from EMC Corporation!

SenseAbility Gym was honored as the designated charity for the annual EMC 2013 Community Service Award.  The award honors EMC employee Timothy Butler, a Consultant Software Engineer in Hopkinton, MA, for his over 400 hours of volunteer work with SenseAbility Gym over the past year.

Established in 2009, EMC’s annual Community Service Awards (CSA) recognizes employees for their contribution to communities outside of causes supported at the corporate level. Butler was chosen for his commitment to the mission of SenseAbility Gym, demonstrated by his input in the development and implementation of a strategic business plan, web site, fundraising, marketing and the creation of the physical space at the facility. He is the husband of Alysia Butler, one of the co-directors of SenseAbility Gym.

“I am honored to be the recipient of this award,” said Timothy Butler. “There is no other business like this in central Massachusetts that provides these services. Many special needs families need a place for their children to play safely and find support and acceptance. SenseAbility Gym is relying on donations and grants, and on fees paid by families who will use the space. No one involved in the organization is taking a salary. I have had the chance to work with other nonprofit organizations over the past nine years as an EMC employee, but as a parent of two children with special needs, this one is very important to me.”

“This generous donation from EMC will enable SenseAbility Gym to purchase additional therapeutic equipment as well as help fund the many special programs we plan to offer families,” said Tina Perriello, Co-Director of SenseAbility Gym. “We’re honored that EMC chose to honor one of their employees for his contribution to our nonprofit in this way.”

We are incredibly grateful to EMC Corporation for this huge donation and a big thank you to Tim for all his work in helping make the gym a very special place.
