socialskillsflyer

Please join us as we dig deeper into our sensory systems! Children will
participate in a variety of therapist led sensory activities to either calm or
alert their systems. They will have opportunities to work on social awareness
with their peers with the assistant of the therapist as needed. Parents will also
have the opportunity to ask any questions throughout the group. We are looking
forward to starting this wonderful journey as we explore each of our senses!

This class will be led by Kellie Nashawaty, a certified Occupational Therapist.

Classes start July 8th.  Space is limited.  Call us at or email us at [email protected] for more information!

EMC Corporation Honors SenseAbility Gym in Hopedale, MA with $15,000 Community Service Award

We are excited to announce a $15,000 donation from EMC Corporation!

SenseAbility Gym was honored as the designated charity for the annual EMC 2013 Community Service Award.  The award honors EMC employee Timothy Butler, a Consultant Software Engineer in Hopkinton, MA, for his over 400 hours of volunteer work with SenseAbility Gym over the past year.

Established in 2009, EMC’s annual Community Service Awards (CSA) recognizes employees for their contribution to communities outside of causes supported at the corporate level. Butler was chosen for his commitment to the mission of SenseAbility Gym, demonstrated by his input in the development and implementation of a strategic business plan, web site, fundraising, marketing and the creation of the physical space at the facility. He is the husband of Alysia Butler, one of the co-directors of SenseAbility Gym.

“I am honored to be the recipient of this award,” said Timothy Butler. “There is no other business like this in central Massachusetts that provides these services. Many special needs families need a place for their children to play safely and find support and acceptance. SenseAbility Gym is relying on donations and grants, and on fees paid by families who will use the space. No one involved in the organization is taking a salary. I have had the chance to work with other nonprofit organizations over the past nine years as an EMC employee, but as a parent of two children with special needs, this one is very important to me.”

“This generous donation from EMC will enable SenseAbility Gym to purchase additional therapeutic equipment as well as help fund the many special programs we plan to offer families,” said Tina Perriello, Co-Director of SenseAbility Gym. “We’re honored that EMC chose to honor one of their employees for his contribution to our nonprofit in this way.”

We are incredibly grateful to EMC Corporation for this huge donation and a big thank you to Tim for all his work in helping make the gym a very special place.

Susan is a writer, activist and mother of three boys, Nat, Max and Ben.  23 year old Nat, has severe autism, her other two sons do not.  Susan writes: “Through my essays, articles, and books, I am trying to make sense of autism and find a way to my oldest son, and help others with this challenge of autism at the same time. This diagnosis does not mean the end of the world, but it is the end of some things. It is also the beginning of a very long road. If you can accept that this person is different, but a person nonetheless, you are halfway there. For the rest of the way, you need a few great friends, a lot of information, and a sense of humor.”

Susan is the author of three books: The Autism Mom’s Survival Guide, Making Peace with Autism and Dirt , her first work of fiction.  She also writes the blog susansenator.com, winner of Babble’s Top 25 Autism Blogs in 2011 and 2012.

Susan is donating her time to come to SenseAbility Gym to talk with parents about her life, your life and any questions/advice/support you might need around transitioning to adult services, hope restoration, parental empowerment, troubleshooting, and finding resources.

Drinks and desserts will be served.  Space is limited.  Even though the event is free, we are asking people to sign up so we know who to expect that night.  Please RSVP by clicking here: An Evening With Susan Senator.
